Week 6!

Puppies are now 6.5 weeks old and really coming into their own.  Variety is the spice of life this week.  We will be having a different object in their outdoor playroom every day.  In this video is the pool upside empty ...then upside down.  They are also becoming good break out artist.. So bought some new fencing to shore up the pen.  SO far SO good - until you see the last frame in the video below.
ENJOY!

Puppies are learning lessons

I built a (very) makeshift path from the kitchen to an outside pen.  It will be refined over the next few days and proofed for the bigger puppies they will become.  They learned to use a step (and it is a big step) jumping off and climbing up.   Mom is watching at a distance as she does not want as much direct contact with them.  They are still nursing 3-4 times a day, mostly just after they eat solid foods.
And Oliver my mini, still does not want direct contact with the pups.  So he will wait to go outside until all are back in their pen.  So enjoy the video of the pups learning about steps.

Discovering New Things

The puppies are realizing the world around them has many new and exciting things!  The simplest object is exciting.  Especially items that get them on higher ground and learning the consequence of gravity when they walk off the object.  This week they should gain an awareness of heights and jump off rather than fall off.  Also we will be working on sounds and taking our 2nd car ride.  (the first was at 4 days of age, to the vet for tail docking)

They are eating and growing.  The puppies weighs over 4 pounds and they are eating 5 lbs of food day!

Below is them playing outside in the adventure box and some new additions to the pen.  Also some inside play with mom watching over them.  Enjoy!

The Adventure Box

The puppies are being introduced to a new adventure.  It is a long video but sit back and enjoy their wonder at the world!   They are at an age where they are not fazed by much - so a good time to introduce lots of different things over and on the heads!

Puppies Week 4

The puppies are all seeing and hearing!  As of yesterday they have begun life in a new "home" from the bedroom to the kitchen.  In the kitchen they will be exposed to more activity around them as well as fresh air and trips outside.
They will also transition to eating on their own this week.  The first step we did was introduce them to marrow bones so they learn to lick rather suck for food.  Twice a day they have the bones for 30 minutes.
Also we are encouraging them to use a potty box.  I can't tell you how much I want this to work.  Now they have a sleep area and potty area.  They will not spoil their sleep area and the idea is to give them only a potty area to go to.  Once they get use to potty in the pellets then we will reduce the potty area and they should then (I hope) seek out the boxes of pellets.  So with broom in hand, I am ready to tackle the first step in housebreaking.  Hopefully future puppy families will reap the benefits!
